“But I’m never going to know what his skin feels like pressed against mine,
or what he likes in his coffee.
Or if he even likes coffee… and I wonder why I love a stranger with all my heart,
and why someone who doesn’t even know my name means more to me than I mean to myself.”

“There are 7 billion people on this planet who I have not met,
and 195 countries I have not visited.
Yet I am stuck in this insignificant town,
being pressured into making decisions about my future,
when I barely even know who I am”

You know what I’ve been craving for since I was 12 ? roadtriping around the world. I’ve been craving for night naps before tiredly walking into a strangers home. For sleeping on the van floor overnight after a show or festival. Craving for driving. and driving. and driving. Driving all over the countries. For loading in, setting up, show time, tearing down, loading out. For seeing only the parts of cities that you drive through. For peeing in a hundred different toilets. For only eating wheat thins for food in a day because I’d spend my daily food money on a single starbucks drink. For hearing the same songs from the same artists twenty nights in a row. For waking up every morning with songs from those three artists in your head every morning. For seeing scenery i never would have otherwise. For learning just how generous strangers can be, when they open up their homes to let me sleep, and feed me and share food that they have made with me. For visiting places i’ve never been before. For a lot of instagram photos. For learning to let little things go. For stealing away those private moments to read the book of common prayer. For watching different sunsets and sunrises every single day.For laughing so much I get the hiccups (several times in one day). For inside jokes. For learning how God’s grace flows into everything. For standing behind a merch table conversing with strangers in hopes that they will put money into the gas tank, but moreso in hopes that they will feel valued. For learning to handle fangirls, hot weather, cold weather, tiredness... And also for body odor & febreezing the van way too much. For van-dancing to terrible rap music. For meeting new people. For making new friends. For finding a new kind of family. You know what I’ve been craving for ? For getting wanderlust until I find my self.

I feel hungry to learn and be better.
I want to travel as far and as widely as possible.
I want to sleep on the floors if I have to.
I want to find out how other people live and eat and cook.
I want to learn from them wherever i go.

Get a job. Go to work. Get married. Have children. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Obey the law. Save for your old age. Now repeat after me. "I am free"

What they did not want you to ever find out is that your generation, the generation born between 1980-1996, actually outnumbers the Baby Boomers. They knew that if you ever turned your eye towards political reform, you could change the world. They tried to keep you sated on vapid television shows and vapid music. They cut off your education and fed you brain candy. They took away your music and gave you Top Ten pop stations. They cut off your art and replaced it with endless reality shows for you to plug into, hoping you would sit quietly by as they ran the world. We as a society are only as strong as our weakest link. Give ‘em hell, kids.
